Sainsbury’s Bank Records Best Ever Summer For Travel Money Sales

25 September 2013

Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Money recorded its best ever summer for foreign currency sales, seeing a 23%(1) year on year increase in sales during  June, July and August.

The supermarket bank, which is committed to offering customers competitive rates and market leading deals, said it was buoyed by an 18% boost  in customer transactions compared to the same period last year(1).

Euros and dollars remained the most popular currencies with Sainsbury’s Bank customers. However the greatest year on year increase recorded was for South American currencies with the Peruvian Nuevo Sol, Costa Rica Colon and Chilean Peso best sellers from the continent. Demand for these currencies was 400% higher this summer compared to the same period last year(1).

James Carter from Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Money commented: “This summer Sainsbury’s Bank has seen demand for travel money reach record highs, benefitting from savvy holidaymakers shopping around for the most competitive rates. We’re constantly striving to offer our customers a better deal, so we were delighted that more customers than ever turned to us for their foreign currency needs this summer, giving them more money in their pockets on holiday.”
