Pound Surges Against Aussie Dollar Just In Time For Test Match

19 November 2013

Sainsbury’s Bank has seen a 38% increase in the amount of AUDs sold in run up to Test(1)

Cricket fans heading down-under for the Test Match are getting more Dollars for their Pounds compared to six months ago, according to new research(2) from Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Money. Strengthening against the Pound by 11% since May this year, it confirms that now is a great time to buy Australian Dollars (AUD).

At the current exchange rate of 1.7073, GBP 500 gets you AUD 853.65 compared to AUD 765.9 in May this year(2). The research(3) also shows that over the last two years the Pound has risen by 9% against the Australian Dollar.

James Carter from Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Money commented: “As the England team get ready for the start of the Test on Thursday, any English cricket fans yet to set off to support their team have a great chance to secure a healthy rate of exchange so that their dollars will go further while they’re down-under.”

The supermarket bank has seen a 38% increase in the amount of AUDs sold in Q3 2013 (July, August & September) compared to the same period last year. In addition, two in five (41%) customers who buy Australian Dollars are loading pre-paid currency cards. There are a number of benefits of doing this, from securing a better exchange rate, to improved security, also exclusively to the Sainsbury’s Bank pre-paid card, customers can earn Nectar points when exchanging money.
